Liberal Communist, 2016
gold-plated wood and bronze
73 cm. high

Condition: In excellent condition.

Notes: The God Horus, in this case portrayed as a human with a falcon head, was the god of the Sun and kingship and served a representation of the living king of Egypt. The title of the work refers to a quote by Slavoj Žižek which reads as follows:
"In Liberal Communist ethics, the ruthless pursuit of profit is countered by charity. Charity is the humanitarian mask hiding the face of economic exploitation. In a superego blackmail of gigantic proportions, the developed countries 'help' the underdeveloped with aid, credits and so on, and thereby avoiding the key issue, namely their complicity in and co-responsibility for the miserable situation of the underdeveloped."

The figure of Horus, with stigmata on his hands and placed on a pile of gold bars, creates an iconological amalgam representing the 'liberal communist'.
