Condition: Overall apparently in very good, original condition, unexamined out of the frame. Some minor signs of wear consistent with age and surface grime in places. Framed behind glass.

Notes: This lot includes postcards by herman de vries from various locations such as India, Greece and earth rubbings from Haßberge in Germany from 1986. Many of the postcards are addressed to art historian Frans Haks (former director of the Groninger Museum), who organised the artist's solo exhibition at the Groninger Museum in 1980.

herman de vries is not only an artist but also a biologist. He doesn't use capitals because, as he claims, he doesn't believe in hierarchy. This derives from his observations of the relation between art and nature, which are incomparable yet synonymous. That is why since the 1980s the artist concentrated his artistic and scientific efforts on researching and exhibiting the connection between humanity and environment. In his art de vries uses herbs, weeds, flowers, crops, different types of soil as a pigment, and grasses.
